《商業周刊》表示，雪山隧道開挖時，曾經過36處地盤湧水，而這些水經過鑑定，
部分屬於約為8000至2萬年以前的「古地下水」，
證實雪山山脈的萬年水脈已經遭到破壞。
而根據工程人員的估算，目前隧道東口與西口的總出水量，每秒大概650公升左右，
也就是說，一天會流失5萬6000公噸，可以裝滿7000量8噸水車，
供給20萬個台北人一天的生活用水。
