感恩節大餐通常都是下午一點鐘就拉開了序幕.各類的點心,餐點就都擺上的大餐桌.愛吃什麼就拿什麼.這是一年中少有不忌口的一天.家人兩三人各聚ㄧ處,有的惟在電視機前看美式橄欖球大賽,有的可以在院子裡打球或是烤肉,愛幹啥幹啥.媽媽與女眷多半在廚房裡忙著.前幾天就買的火雞正在烤箱裡烤著,美式廚房中有兩個烤箱.都很大.一個就是用來烤火雞,另外一個可以烤南瓜餅或是蛋糕之類的東西.

差不多到下午四五點鐘,才真正要全家坐下來一起吃飯,這時媽媽就擺出最好的銀器(可能一年就用這麼一次)杯盤.等大家坐定了,就由最年長或是家長來做一個對上帝的感恩禱告,感謝上帝在過去一年的看顧與賜福.

禱告完了就可以開始正式用餐,說也奇怪,明明大家已經吃了不少零食了,現在居然還能吃得下火雞.出了火雞還有火雞肚子中的烤飯(很像台灣人吃的油飯),少不了玉米,紅蘿蔔與馬鈴薯,生菜沙拉,南瓜餅等等傳統美國食物.
